Mariners split games against Bitterroot Bucs

POLSON — Aiden Gfroerer drove in two runs as the Mission Valley Mariners took a 7-5 win in game two over the Bitterroot Bucs to earn a split of Tuesday’s doubleheader.


In game one, Chase Wagner drove in three runs for the Bucs (21-13), while Mason Arlington and Caleb Katen brought home a pair in a 14-3 victory. 


Wagner hit a three-run homer in the top of the fourth to put Bitterroot ahead 14-0.  


Mission Valley (23-20) got three runs back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a passed ball and an error but could get no closer. 


Aiden Crawford threw four innings for the Bucs, allowing three runs on six hits. 


In the second game, the Mariners put up four runs in the bottom of the third without picking up a single hit. A walk and four hit batsmen allowed Mission Valley to take a 5-3 lead, two runs came home on passed balls. 


Gfroerer singled in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Mariners' lead out to 7-4.  


Justin Brown and Cody Haggard combined on the mound to keep the Bucs at bay. Haggard threw three innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit. He fanned three.
