A Lakers hold off Twins in opener
George Schwan’s two-run single highlighted a four-run fourth inning, and he wiggled out of a jam in the seventh as the Kalispell A Lakers held off the Glacier Twins 6-5 in Western A Legion baseball Wednesday.
It was the first game of a doubleheader; the second game had not ended at press time.
Schwan’s single put the Lakers (30-23) up 3-0 in the fourth, and Carter Wiggington added another RBI single before the Lakers scored another run on a wild pitch.
Beau Schultz drove in Kalispell’s sixth run with a single in the sixth, making it 6-0 before the Twins roared back.
Singles by Dawson Juntunen and Nolan Amerman, a hit batter and two errors got Glacier rolling, with Treyson Murphy’s sacrifice fly capping a four-run sixth inning by the hosts.
In the seventh Amerman singled, stole second and scored on Juntunen’s grounder through short to cut the gap to 6-5 against Schwan, who took over from Starter Beau McEwen with one out in the sixth.
West Amerman followed with a single to put the tying run on second with nobody out, but the Twins (5-25-1) went down in order from there.
Wiggington scored twice for the Lakers; Fischer Lee had two hits.
