Range Riders rally, then fall to Missoula in KO round

The Glacier Range Riders plated three runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game before losing a heartbreaker in the knockout round when Roberto Pena outhomered Xavier Casserilla 1-0 to give the Missoula PaddleHeads a 4-3 victory at Glacier Bank Park Wednesday night.

John Mabry led off the ninth inning with a base hit; TJ Clarkson followed with a single before Logan Beard was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. With two outs, Casserilla was hit by a pitch to score the Range Riders (3-5 in the second half) first run of the game and Kingston Liniak followed with a two-run single to tie the game at three.

Adam Fogel was the driving force behind the PaddleHeads (5-3) offense. He laced a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning for the first two runs of the game and followed with a solo shot in the eighth, his 19th and 20th home runs of the season.

Fogel’s homer in the fourth was the only runs given up by starter Grant Taylor, who pitched six strong innings, allowing six hits and striking out nine. Andrew Armstrong started opposite Taylor but lasted just one inning before Reece Fields pitched the bulk of the game, allowing three hits and no earned runs across 5 2-3 innings.

Glacier was able to get to reliever Arman Sabouri in the ninth after scattering five hits in the first eight frames. Eli Paton led the team with two hits, including a double for the only extra-base hit of the game. Liniak finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
