Taylor’s complete game leads Glacier over Great Falls

Grant Taylor struck out eight in a complete game performance as the Glacier Range Riders defeated the Great Falls Voyagers 4-2 Sunday at Glacier Bank Park to round out their six-game series.


The win gives Glacier (13-23) their second win of the series. The Voyagers fell to 7-29. 


Taylor scattered eight hits on the day and issued just one walk for the victory. 


Nick Marshall started for Great Falls, going six innings and allowing four runs on seven hits. He fanned six. 


Kody Putnam hit his fourth home run of the season to put the Voyagers up 1-0 in the second inning. 


Jeff Nicol made it 2-0 in the fourth with an RBI triple to center. 


Glacier rallied back in the fifth, scoring all four of their runs. First, Angel Mendoza singled to third, scoring Efrain Manzo. Logan Beard and TJ Clarkson then hit RBI singles to give Glacier the lead 3-2. Jack Lynch drew a bases loaded walk to cap off the frame and give the Range Riders a 4-2 advantage. Taylor shut the Voyagers down from there. 


Trey Cruz went 4-for-4 from the plate for the Voyagers.

Frank Podkul homered and doubled as the Voyagers took their fourth win in five games Saturday with an 8-5 decision over the Range Riders. 


Podkul’s two-RBI double in the third inning scored Tommy Specht and Roman Kuntz to give the Voyagers a 3-1 lead. 


After another Great Falls run scored, Glacier got a pair back in the fourth thanks to Antonio Barranca bringing Manzo home on an error. Gabe Howell made it 4-3 bringing in John Mabry while grounding into a double play. 


Podkul extended the Glacier lead again with a solo shot in the seventh, making it 6-3. 


After Kuntz doubled in the eighth to bring in a pair of runs, Kingston Liniak tried to will the Range Riders back into the game with a solo homer in the eighth to make it 8-4. 


Ty Bothwell started for Glacier, striking out seven in five innings of work. Bothwell now has a league-leading 51 strikeouts on the season. 


Brendan Moody started for the Voyagers and went five innings. He fanned three and allowed three runs on seven hits.
