Leonard Joseph Hogan, 73
Leonard Joseph Hogan, 73, of Kalispell passed away Nov. 13, 2024, after a short, fierce battle with thyroid cancer, and is now in the arms of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Leonard was born in Chicago, Illinois on Nov. 23, 1950, to Frank and Dorothy "Donna" Hogan. He was the second of four children.
After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey and then was sent overseas to Germany. While in the army he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He later extended his military career, joining the Montana Army National Guard in 1985, retiring from military duty in 2003.
He met and married his wife Carol while working in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
They moved to the Kalispell area in 1976 and raised their two kids, Michael and Michelle.
Leonard worked for Will Warner building logging roads and baling hay until landing a job with the City of Kalispell as a grader operator. He continued with the city working his way up to street superintendent and retired in 2012.
Leonard loved the Lord and was devoted to his family, friends and neighbors. He was a long-time member of Stillwater Free Lutheran Church. He taught Sunday school for many years and was often a deacon or trustee. Driving the church after school bus up until the last weeks of his cancer treatment.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, his youngest sister, Valerie, his son, Michael and his, parents.
He is survived by his older brother, Michael, younger sister, Sheila, daughter, Michelle Turner and her husband, Jerritt Turner, his granddaughters, Jamie and Whitney Kemp and four great-grand kids. His passing left a hole in his neighborhood, and he will be missed by many.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 21, at Stillwater Free Lutheran Church with a luncheon to follow. Military honors will take place prior to the ceremony.
