International concert pianist to perform with youth choirs
Australian-based international concert pianist, Van-Anh Nguyen, will give her first Montana performance at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center May 18.
Nguyen, who gave her debut performance at the Sydney Opera House at 8 years old, will be joined on stage by two local youth choirs.
The first concert, The Princess and the Piano, begins at 3 p.m. and will feature the Flathead Youth Choir. This concert draws from Nguyen’s album of the same title, which features her piano arrangements of iconic songs from Disney films such as “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid," “Moana” and “Frozen.” This whimsical concert is approximately an hour and a half in length.
At 7:30 p.m., Nguyen will be joined by the Whitefish High School choir in an intimate classical concert showcasing her masterful interpretations of works by Debussy and Chopin. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $30 and may be purchased online at eventbrite.com.
Both concerts will help raise funds for the Flathead Youth Choir and Whitefish High School choir.
Nguyen has released 10 albums and became the first Australian-Vietnamese pianist to appear on the U.S. iTunes classical charts, according to according to her bio at www.vananhofficial.com. Her “Peaceful Piano Essentials” album hit No. 1 on the Australian Recording Industry Association classical charts more than once and her 2019 album, “Pop Alchemy” debuted at No. 2 on the classical-crossover charts.
