Law roundup: Man unhappy with gun-for-vehicle swap
Someone reportedly traded a gun for a vehicle but wanted the gun back when the vehicle broke down. The person called the Kalispell Police Department from a location where they had waited for two hours for the person to show up.
A man complained about a vehicle parked in a handicapped spot. He whined to the police about being ticketed “for doing the same thing yesterday, so he wants everyone to get in trouble for it.” He reportedly said he had been parking in a handicapped spot for over six months because he didn’t have an assigned spot and expressed frustration that he had to park a block away from his apartment. An officer drove through the apartment complex and located one vehicle in a handicapped spot with license plates that had the proper designations for a disabled veteran.
A 74-year-old woman, reminiscing about a friend she hadn’t spoken to in more than 10 years, called the police from Oregon, trying to track her down. An officer checked their records, tried a disconnected phone number and found a different owner at her listed address. The officer let her know, adding that they couldn’t expend time and resources tracking people down without a legitimate concern for a person’s welfare.
A man in a wheelchair allegedly grabbed a woman's buttocks.
A man was reportedly stripping naked in the park. The man told officers he accidentally soiled his pants and was in the process of cleaning himself and putting on a fresh pair of pants. Officers gave him a warning for disorderly conduct.
A woman’s leashed dog was reportedly attacked by a dog on the loose while walking home and underwent emergency surgery to treat its wounds.
Someone allegedly gave change to a panhandler holding a sign stating she needed money and had a child sleeping in her vehicle. They called the police out of concern that someone might be forcing her to beg. She had pleaded for more money, which the caller took to mean she was “desperate for other reasons.”
A man allegedly knocked on someone’s door inquiring if a motor home was for sale, and a child let a dog out that attacked him, ripping a hole in the crotch of his pants. He said a man gave him $50 for the pants. There was no physical injury, but he was worried the dog would hurt someone of smaller stature.
