Ennis softball sweeps doubleheader with Eureka
EUREKA — Leah Tkachyk tallied five hits over two games, including a pair of triples but Eureka fell in both sides of a doubleheader with Ennis 15-5 and 10-6 Friday in Class B softball.
In game one, Tkachyk opened the scoring for the Lions (4-16) with a first inning triple to right field that brought in Maddie Chase. She later came in on an error to make it 2-0.
Ennis (11-6) quickly took control though as a six-run second gave them the lead for good, highlighted by a pair of 2-RBI singles from Jaycee Funke and Ruby Boggus.
Marley Neesvig brought Eureka within one in the second, but that was all the offense the Lions could muster in game one as Ennis took a 15-5 decision.
In game two, Tkachyk had a pair of singles and a seventh inning triple. Tessa Seiler opened the scoring in the second for Eureka with a single to right that brought in Lily McAfee, making it 1-0.
After the Lions went up 3-0 in the third, Ennis powered to ten runs over a three inning stretch starting in the fourth with an Ally Hilton single putting them on the board.
A Boggus single put Ennis up for good in the bottom of the fifth, making it 5-4.
