PLAINS — Despite leading 2-1 after the first inning and 7-1 through the top half of the third inning, the Plains-Hot Springs Trotters kept answering back, scoring 15 runs in the final four frames to down the Eureka Lions 16-10 in a Western B softball play-in game Tuesday.

Eureka (4-19) put up two runs in the first inning on a wild pitch and a Leah Tkachyk double to take an early lead. Evie Holm and Tyrone Cook both drew RBI walks and Nora McKim’s 3-run single was part of a 5-run third inning to extend their lead before some costly mistakes allowed the Trotters back in the game.

Plains (4-16) scored four runs in their half of the third inning, two of them on Lions’ errors, a walk and Emery Josephson’s RBI single. They plated four more runs in the fourth on RBI singles from Josephson and Trysten Larsen.

After the Lions retook the lead 10-9 in the fifth inning, the Trotters plated four more runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to put the game away.

The Trotters advanced to the Western B Divisional that begins Thursday in Florence. They play Florence at 10 a.m.
