Whitefish Theatre Company presents sharp comedy ‘The Baby Shower’
The Whitefish Theatre Company presents its final production of the season, “The Baby Shower,” a sharp-witted comedy by Topher Payne.
Here's the thing about baby showers: No one actually wants to be there. But there are certain rituals we follow, for the sake of tradition and a gift registry. Nine women have gathered at Grace Driscoll's beautifully appointed home, fully expecting to go through the motions of social niceties. But an unforeseen event in Grace's life, and a few unexpected guests, send the party careening into uncharted territory. Simmering resentment, cutthroat professional conflict, fierce battles of will — these are 21st-century Southern women, and they have no interest in blessing your heart.
Director and Whitefish Theatre Company Artistic Director Kim Krueger, who most recently directed the sold-out run of “Shrek: The Musical,” describes the script as a bit like the movies “Bridesmaids” and “Steel Magnolias."
“It’s A razor-sharp comedy that also deals with family life and societal issues. I’m excited for you to meet the strong, intelligent, complex and hilarious women of Morningside [the picture-perfect suburb in the play],” Krueger said. “They are more than initially meets the eye, and discovering their individual stories and connections was a fascinating journey we are excited to take you on.”
The ensemble cast stars actors from around the valley, including Scarlett Schindler as Grace, Beth Kornick as Louise, Dawn Watland as Roxanne, Sarina Hart as Felecia, Baylee Oligmiller as Devyn, Laura Abernethy as Clancy, Stephanie Miller as Mackenzie, Andy Wilton as Sophie and Merannda Button as Elinor.
“[The cast] fearlessly threw their hearts into making these ladies come to life. These rehearsals were nights of thought-provoking discussions, discoveries, tons of laughs and snacks. Lots of snacks. They were so generous to each other and to this process,” Krueger said.
