Flathead Electric Co-op holds GIS Day event
Flathead Electric Cooperative is holding an open house featuring presentations on Geographical Information System (GIS) issues, work, and advancements.
The Flathead Valley GIS Day event is Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Topics include Making Wildfire Maps: How Do They Do That? by Ryan Dalton, Gartrell Group; Hidden Maps in Plain Sight: The Influence of GIS on the World Around Us by Mark Eiseman, GBS USA; How Images Become Maps: in 2D and 3D by Cody Benkelman, ESRI; Motor Vehicle Accidents in Kalispell: Using GIS to Identify Hot Lines by Claire Simchuk, Kalispell Police Department; and Storm Outage Response: Improving Field to Office Communication Using GIS by Collin Novotny, Flathead Electric Cooperative.
The GIS field focuses on storing, managing, and analyzing geographical information on a computer. In short, GIS is mapping technology and is creatively used across many industries to empower data-driven decisions and program management.
Flathead Valley GIS Day will be held at Flathead Electric Cooperative’s Community Room. Although the free event is aimed at GIS pros, members of the public interested in the field of GIS work – including high school and college students – are also encouraged to attend.
