Law roundup: Car alarm causes a ruckus
After the constant blaring of a car alarm got on the nerves of someone nearby, Kalispell Police officers tracked down the vehicle's owner to troubleshoot the situation. Though the alarm had been going on and off for about 45 minutes, the owner reported being unaware of the noise. Officers asked him to keep an ear out and suggested that he might be sitting on his keys and unwittingly setting off the alarm.
Officers unsuccessfully sought the driver of a Toyota Tundra that a passerby saw drive over a curb and nearly hit a couple of pedestrians.
Hoping to see a years-old ban from a store lifted, a woman phoned the Police Department. She said her husband received the ban after getting mouthy with a now former employee, telling the worker that they needed to watch what they said or "someone might knock him out." The woman's attempts to settle the matter with the store proved unsuccessful and she hoped the authorities might have more luck. Officers agreed to contact store management.
A motorist received a warning for driving with an expired registration. Another driver got a warning for speeding.
A Lincoln County-based ambulance allegedly struck a parked blue truck and took off.
Finding a homeless man falling over on the side of the road, a passerby took it on herself to put him up in a hotel for the night. She phoned the police looking to connect the man to resources. Officers alerted crisis response personnel to the situation.
An evicted tenant sought to file a written statement with the police to show her landlord had wrongly kicked her out. Officers let her know that she was facing a civil matter rather than a criminal violation. They agreed to document her side of the story, however.
Perturbed at the sight of a man sitting in a parked vehicle for an extended period, a resident phoned the police. A neighbor had gone out to confront the man, and he apparently replied that he was waiting on his girlfriend, which the resident believed to be a lie. When officers checked in on him, the man's girlfriend came out to confirm that he was waiting for her.
