More than 500 volunteer speech and debate judges are needed for the Western Regional Tournament on Dec. 5 and 6 in Kalispell.

No prior experience is necessary. People are asked to volunteer for two or more hours. Sign up to judge and access a training slideshow and judge’s handbook online at kalispellspeechdebate.org.

Currently, about 700 students from 19 schools are signed up to compete, according to judge coordinator Kyla Niva. Speech events will be held at Flathead High School and debate events at Glacier High School. Judges should plan to arrive 15 to 30 minutes prior to the start of the event they will be judging.  The first round starts at 4 p.m. Dec. 5 and at 8 a.m. Dec. 6.

An awards ceremony is planned for 7 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Flathead auditorium.

For more information, call or email judge coordinator Kyla Niva at 751-3500 or nivak@sd5.k12.mt.us.
