SIDNEY — The Corvallis boys and Billings Central girls look strong after the first round of the State A golf tournament at Sidney Country Club.

But Polson and Whitefish are sitting right there.

Polson’s boys, with Max Milton’s 69 leading all golfers, sit in a tie for second in the team standings, seven strokes behind the 309 put together by Corvallis. The Blue Devils have three players in the top 10 after 18 holes, led by Brady Powell’s 72.

Billings Central’s boys team also has 316 strokes, with a couple players in the 70s.

Polson has Milton — he had an eagle and four birdies to balance out one tough hole Friday — along with Cash Brown (75), Soren Lund (84) and Carson Emerson (88) scoring well.

Ronan’s Oliver Rowe joined Brown and Billings Central’s Colin Jensen at 75.

On the girls’ side Billings Central has a more convincing lead — 23 strokes over Whitefish, which had 372 strokes on Friday.

Anna Linde of fourth-place Livingston has a four-stroke lead over the field after a 77; Central’s Berkley Park and Karlee Brown of Whitefish both put up 81s to sit second.

Whitefish’s Ryhlee Scott (93) sits 10th, one stroke behind Keegan Campbell of Bigfork. The Bulldogs also have Caroline Owens (98) and Ava Zignego (100) not far outside the Top 15.

The Central Rams, meanwhile, have four girls inside the All-State cutoff.

Full results for the tournament, which concludes Saturday, can be found at mhsa.org.
