Law Roundup: Unbagged groceries sacked in theft
A woman claimed her neighbors stole a cart of groceries because the groceries "weren’t bagged" and that she called the store and was told they stole from them. She also claimed the adults were intoxicated and children were in the street.
The store manager told an officer she called, but they were unaware of a theft and had no reason to believe one occurred but would review security footage. No children were running in the street when the police went to the location. The meddler was reportedly upset to hear what the officer found out, believing there to be a mistake and accusing the police of “being on the payroll” and protecting the suspects. She also reportedly said she wanted “all of them” deported.
A woman allegedly spoke to a scammer over the phone who tried to get her to "pay for her warrant" with gift cards. She didn’t provide any information to the scammer and called the police, wanting to ensure she did not have a warrant out for her arrest.
What sounded like a bunch of stuff being broken was reportedly coming from inside a building. Officers drove around but didn’t see or hear anything unusual and called the person who reported the incident multiple times with no answer.
A man reportedly wandered around a parking lot, screaming profanities, which someone, who called the police, said they didn’t have the authority to kick him off the property, but would sign a complaint about the disorderly behavior.
A man reportedly backed into a vehicle in a parking lot and told the owner he would cover the damages, which were unreported at the time, but he had since stopped responding to their messages. Officers advised the vehicle owner that they could self-report the crash and pursue civil action.
A passerby asked officers to check on the welfare of an allegedly emaciated hitchhiker who looked to be in his 80s or 90s.
