Frontier: Wilson, Torgerson combine for 4 TDs in Tech win
ASHLAND, Ore. — Jarrett Wilson and Levi Torgerson hooked up for four touchdowns in No. 7 Montana Tech’ Froniter Conference football win at No. 24 Southern Oregon Saturday.
Wilson, a sophomore quarterback out of Polson, had 321 yards on 15 of 20 passing — and 222 of the yards went to Torgerson, on eight catches.
Orediggers (4-0) running back Wykece Johnson punched in a 2-yard touchdown run less than five minutes into the game.
SOU (1-2) tied the game in the first quarter with 47-yard touchdown pass by Dom Montiel, who threw for 280 yards and two scores.
Torgerson took over the rest of the first half with touchdown catches covering 74, 4 and 70 yards. Torgerson scored his fourth touchdown with just over nine minutes left.
Luke Bilau out of Glacier High had one catch for 8 yards.
Montana Western 35, Rocky Mountain 21
BILLINGS — Michael Palandri threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns in No. 9 Western’s 35-21 victory over Rocky Mountain on Saturday.
Rocky (0-3) was outgained 498-347 in total yards.
Eric Lira caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Luke Holcomb to tie the score at seven with 14:33 remaining in the second quarter. Western got two Maclain Burkle field goals before halftime to lead 13-7.
The Battlin’ Bears took a 14-13 lead to start the second half when Holcolmb connected with Darius Haskin for 47-yards. Haskin finished the game with 121 yards on six catches.
Western scored 22 straight points behind Palandri, who threw touchdowns of 17, 11, and 26 yards for a 35-14 lead with 11:56 remaining.
Carroll 35, Dickinson St. 7
DICKINSON, N.D. — Carroll College, ranked No. 25, held No. 11 Dickinson State to zero rushing yards at the Besiot Activities center on Saturday afternoon.
Saints (2-1) quarterback Kaden Huot was efficient, completing 20 of 24 passes for205 yards passing and two touchdowns. He also had a receiving touchdown covering 6 yards.
Carroll started the scoring with a 17 yard-touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead just eight minutes into the game.
Huot connected with Chris Akulschin on a 19-yard strike, and Xzavier Ford’s 8-yard run with 3:58 left in the first half put the Saints up 21-0.
The Blue Hawks (2-1) got on the board at 3:26 of the third, when Semaj Clark caught a 1-yard touchdown from Marcus Sanders. DSU was outgained 484-136.
Glacier product Connor Sullivan returned two punts for 23 yards for Carroll.
College of Idaho 38, MSU-Northern 16
CALDWELL, Idaho — The host Coyotes scored the first 24 points of the game in their victory over the Northern Lights.
CofI (3-0) ran for 292 yards and held Northern to minus–5 rushing yards on the day.
Northern (0-4) scored their first points with 25 seconds left in the first half when Tate O’Neill made a 25-yard field goal.
Rylie Byington scored a 3-yard run and caught a 28-yard touchdown from Chase Vehmeyer to extend the Yotes’ lead to 31-3 with 5:45 in the third quarter. Byington scored three touchdowns.
With 2:28 left in the third, Isaiah Woodley caught a 78-yard TD to cut the lead to 38-9.
