Glacier nails down top seed in flag football; Flathead No 3
MISSOULA — With a 13-6 win over Missoula Hellgate, the Glacier Wolfpack earned top spot out of the Western AA flag football seeding tournament held Saturday at MCPS Stadium.
The five-team tournament sent four teams to next week’s All-Class State Tournament, Wednesday and Thursday in Hamilton; Flathead is the No. 3 seed and Missoula Sentinel, No. 4.
The Wolfpack beat Flathead 20-13 in what was basically a semifinal game; Karley Allen threw TD passes to Remi Osler and Rylee Galle and ran for a score in the win.
Allen threw for two more touchdowns, to Addison Kauffman and Galle, against Hellgate. The Knights’ score came a run by Athena Starin.
Hellgate advanced via a 6-0 overtime win over Sentinel.
Flathead played three times Saturday, beating Missoula Big Sky 26-0 before falling to Glacier. The Bravettes then beat Sentinel 6-0 for the third seed and will face Billings West at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at State.
Flathead and Glacier are on the same side of the bracket: Glacier, the three-time state champion, plays an 8 a.m. game against the No. 4 seed out of the East. That opponent was not available at press time.
The tournament is split into three classes — AA, A and B/C. The AA championship is set for 3:15 p.m. Thursday. The A final is at 2 p.m., and the B/C championship at 4:30.
