Interior Secretary ramps up assault on public land

For the second consecutive year, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has proposed a budget that attempts to undermine the agencies that care for America’s public lands.

Released in early April, the fiscal 2027 budget plans to cut nearly 3,000 positions from the National Park Service alone, plus thousands more staffers across the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Geological Survey, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Bureau of Indian Affairs.
