Homestead exemption

This is in reference to the editorial about the lawsuit against property tax relief.

Our property taxes decreased this year. We own one home, the one we live in full time. We are retired and on a fixed income. We do not want to see our property taxes increase so Keith Regier can get a tax break on his second home on Bitterroot Lake. The lawsuit seems to be self-serving to the plaintiffs.

However, it appears that the legislation could have been more thought out. Placing the burden on owners of second homes is legitimate. I do sympathize with those who have second homes in their family for years. That is a tough one to square. It does place an unfair burden on business owners.

Regardless, our taxes have increased substantially since 2020. I don’t want an undue property tax burden because some are driving real estate values up, like overpaying for property. I agree with the homestead exemption. I also feel there should be a cap on the tax increase year over year.
