Libby boys 3rd, Ronan girls win Western A wrestling

DILLON — The Libby Loggers put six wrestlers on the podium Saturday, placing third at the Western A Divisional boys wrestling tournament.

Ronan, a perennial power, won the girls divisional by 75 points with the Browning Lady Indians taking second. 

Four members of Libby’s Greenchain finished second in their weight classes: Levi Nick at 110, Bridger Bache at 118, Hunter Rooney at 175 and Ian Thom second at 190.  

Libby scored 175 points. Frenchtown scored 282 points to take the team crown, with Corvallis a close second at 280.5. 

Ronan (186 points), Columbia Falls (172) and Polson (153) placed fourth through sixth. 

Ronan was led by Cooper Wayman, who won the 215-pound title with a pin of Browning’s Manny Oldchief. Luc Cheff was second at 132 for Ronan, as was teammate Brandon McCollum at 126. 

Columbia Falls’ Blaise Cronk was the Western A champion at 165 pounds; he pinned Browning’s Kayne Burke in the final, his third fall of the tournament. Two more Matcats, Brander Christianson (103) and Kolbe Cronk (132), finished third. 

Polson had 12 wrestlers finish in the top six, led by Levi Atkins taking third at 138. 

Whitefish’s Sam Akey took third at 215; Bigfork’s top finisher was Holland Jantzen, who also took third at 285. 

Browning’s Burke (165) and Oldchief were runners-up.  

On the girls side, divisional champs River Cote (105), Leona Dodson (155) and Judasha Ellsworth (235) led Ronan to the title. With 15 of their 16 wrestlers placing in the top six, the Maidens piled up 273 points to 197.5 for Browning. 

Finlay Taylor (190), Sierra McGreevey (130), Jewell Reum (120) all finished second for  Ronan; six more Maidens finished third.  

For Browning, Prairie Sanders won the title at 120 pounds and Keyenna DeRoches did the same at 190. The Lady Indians’ Hayden Edwards was the champion at 170, beating teammate Aubree Guardipee in the final. 

Polson’s Kaiah Dumont won the 135-pound title Saturday. Whitefish had a champion at 130 pounds in Taylor Dorvall, who scored a 6-1 decision over Ronan’s McGreevey. 

Columbia Falls’ top girl was Hailey Littlefield, third at 235.
