Eagles fly past Pack: Western AA leading Big Sky girls start strong, down Glacier
The Big Sky Eagles shared the love in a commanding 72-28 victory over Glacier on Valentines Day Saturday at the Wolf Den.
Avory DeCoite and Lilly Johnson scored 16 points apiece to move the Western AA leading Eagles to 11-0 in conference — Big Sky is 14-2 overall — Kenzie Schmitz made it three players in double figures with 10.
Karley Allen led the Wolfpack (1-15, 0-11 in conference) with 10 points.
“I have never doubted the effort that we have given all season and that remains true today,” Glacier coach Amanda Cram said. “We continue to be undersized, but the girls keep battling. I am proud of their effort.”
The Eagles opened strong, taking a 21-2 lead after eight minutes and extended it to 34-10 at the half.
Tanya Kirilovich opened the second half with a triple that started an 11-0 run for Big Sky as the lead ballooned to 45-10.
Glacier put together a small run late in the third as Cadence Daniels knocked down a 3-pointer and Allen drew an and-one layup to cut the deficit down to 51-18.
The Eagles were just too much, as they tallied the next 13, including a buzzer-beating layup from Johnson to put Big Sky up 64-18 going into the final frame.
DeCoite — a Lady Griz commit — played just 16 minutes and sat out the fourth quarter with the game well in hand for the Eagles.
Glacier now sets their sights on crosstown rival Flathead, who comes to the Wolf Den Thursday. The boys are slated to start the night at 6 p.m. with the girls to follow.
“I like our team chemistry,” Cram said when asked about what her team can take from Saturday into Thursday’s matchup. “I like how the girls work hard for each other and their unselfish play and in the chaos of a crosstown, that goes a long way.”
