Law roundup: Man strung along in guitar fraud
A California man may have to play air guitar for a while after an online purchase turned into theft. The man allegedly purchased a guitar for $15,600 after the seller provided a photo of a Montana driver’s license showing a valid address. However, Kalispell Police could not find a person with the seller’s name in Montana, nor did the provided photo show the holographic images featured on Montana driver’s licenses. The man notified PayPal of the fraudulent transaction, which reportedly worked on refunding the money.
A bank alerted a man that his name was used in a wire transaction for a lease agreement on a house, which he wasn’t involved in. He reported the fraud to the police and the bank also reported the fraudulent ad to Craigslist, where it was removed.
