Man, boy dead after car hit by Amtrak train near Browning

A 43-year-old man and a 7-year-old boy from Browning were killed Tuesday after their vehicle was struck by an Amtrak passenger train.

The crash happened on Spotted Robe Trail on the Blackfeet Reservation at about 1:05 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, according to a Montana Highway Patrol report.

The man was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt south on Spotted Robe Trail when it entered the railroad crossing. An eastbound train hit the sedan on the passenger side, killing the driver and the boy in the back seat. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

The vehicle had no other occupants.

Road conditions were listed as snow-covered at the time of the crash.
