Granite Moccasin project protects vital infrastructure

The Hungry Horse Ranger District of the Flathead National Forest has put together a very focused and thoughtful plan to reduce fuels in an area located south of Glacier National Park spanning about 40 miles along U.S. 2.  

The Granite Moccasin project will provide needed restoration and protection to communities and essential infrastructure from wildfire threats. This narrow canyon corridor includes the BNSF Railway line, a natural gas line, electrical transmission lines, and other utility and communication facilities. The Middle Fork of the Flathead River is also very popular for recreation.
