BUTTE — Laurel’s Adrienne Roth threw a one-hitter in the first championship, then held Hamilton to five hits in the if-necessary game as the Locomotives won the weather-delayed State A softball title Tuesday.

Roth had three hits and drove in three runs in Laurel’s 13-1 win in the opener, while Emerson Gunther, Ava Styles, Ashley Brown and Sophia Wisecup also had two RBIs for Laurel (23-8).

Laurel rapped out 16 hits — 10 in a 10-run fifth inning. Gunther had the only extra-base hit, a two-run double that made it 8-1. The game ended after five under the run rule.

Roth allowed two walks and one unearned run, striking out four in that game; in the second game she gave two runs in the first and then shut down the Broncs the rest of the way, fanning five.

Gracie Hogsett had an RBI double and came in on Wisecup’s single to cap a three-run first for Laurel. In the fifth Brown hit a run-scoring double to put the Locomotives up 5-2 and they were on their way to their second state title and first since 2006.

The games were rained out at Hamilton High School on Saturday.
