Dunham’s Sports opens sporting goods store in Evergreen

Nationwide sporting goods retailer Dunham’s Sports has established its third Montana location by opening a store in Evergreen. 

Dunham’s Sports is one of the largest sporting goods chains in the country, with over 260 stores in 26 states. The new store is in the former Kmart building, at 2024 U.S. 2 E.  

A grand opening for the store is set for June 6, beginning at 8 a.m.  

The new Dunham’s offers apparel and footwear departments, large hunting, fishing, camping, and water sports areas, and a broad selection of fitness equipment.  

“That really goes back to our early days as Dunham’s Bait and Tackle when we opened in 1937. We've built upon that (in the years since) and added a full assortment of everything you need for team sports ... a very large assortment of key brands in apparel and footwear, as well as hunting and fishing brands,” said Dunham’s Vice President of Marketing and Advertising David Palmer. 

Inside the store’s 66,000 square-foot building in Evergreen, shoppers can find recognizable brands like Carhartt, Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, Beyond Yoga, Free People Movement, Skechers, Birkenstock, Yeti, Blackstone, Callaway Golf, NordicTrack, Rawlings, Federal, Smith and Wesson and Winchester, according to the release.  

Dunham’s Sports also recently opened locations in Havre and Billings, Palmer said. But Kalispell was identified as a “sweet spot” for the company, with a population of around 35,000 people and a regional draw.  

Palmer said the company has been expanding westward.  

“Our heritage begins in Michigan, and we've expanded quite heavily in the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and Southeast. But over the last three years or so, we've started to move west. We've added Montana, Wyoming and New Mexico ... [Kalispell] sits very well with the type of market that we are looking for in terms of adding new stores,” he said.  

Palmer said there are 45 people on staff at the Evergreen store, but it hires regularly. Job postings for Dunham’s Sports can be found at dunhamssports.com, by scrolling down to find the careers tab at the bottom of the page.  

During the grand opening, the first 250 adult customers to make a purchase of $19.99 or more will receive a Dunham’s Sports gift card, worth up to $500, according to the company. Additionally, the first 100 families in line will receive a shopping bag with a coupon good for 25% off the regular price of everything they can fit in the bag. This one-time use coupon is good for June 6 only and excludes firearms, ammo, optics and gift cards. It is limited to two of any one item.
