State gears up for pavement improvement project on U.S. 2 near Essex
Crews are expected to begin work on U.S. 2 near Essex this month as part of the Stanton-Essex Pavement Preservation project.
The project, undertaken by the Montana Department of Transportation and Schellinger Construction, aims to improve about 12 miles of road beginning near Stanton Creek and extending southeast to just beyond the Middle Fork Flathead River bridge.
Planned enhancements include milling and replacing asphalt, applying seal and cover, installing rumble strips, completing bridge repairs, updating pavement markings and upgrading guardrail.
Motorists traveling through the project area can expect single-lane closures, reduced speeds and minor delays during active construction. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, follow signs, and remain alert for workers and equipment throughout the corridor.
Construction is anticipated to continue for about six months, weather and other factors permitting. Crews are expected to work daytime hours during active construction operations.
Pavement preservation projects are designed to extend the life of the roadway while enhancing safety and improving travel conditions for motorists, officials said.
