Law roundup: Men shopping for a truck veer into trouble

Two men in their 20s allegedly got in a Chevy pickup parked near a dumpster on U.S. 93 South, started it and put a hitch on the gas pedal to rev the engine. Leaving the truck running and the doors locked, the duo reportedly got into another vehicle and left. Whitefish Police Department officers arrived to find the engine smoking and smelling of burnt oil, which firefighters extinguished. Officers spoke to the registered owner, who reportedly said he had listed the vehicle on Facebook Marketplace and told the individuals they could come take a look at it while he was at work and did not wish to pursue charges.  

A white RAV4 with Texas license plates reportedly followed a woman on Seventh Street West and Geddes Avenue, passing her at a high rate of speed and almost hitting another car head-on.   

Officers reportedly stopped a pedestrian on Spokane Avenue and East Ninth Street to tell them not to walk in the middle of the road or commit any crimes. 

Two drunk men were reportedly causing a ruckus on Railway Street and Central Avenue, yelling and harassing passersby.  

A person was allegedly in a U.S. 93 South store following and recording someone on video. The person reportedly told police the individual had followed them several times before and also wanted it documented that they were submitting false reports to Child Protective Services. 

An officer cited the registered owner of a vehicle for violating city parking ordinances and for having expired registration after shrugging off their word that they would move it by morning.  

Three brown dogs and a puppy were allegedly out chasing deer on Kalispell and Riverside avenues and traipsed into a woman’s yard, who chased them back to their own yard. 

An officer was flagged down on Baker Street and East First Street by someone who said a man was asleep in a red truck at the light. The sleepy man was just getting some shuteye appeared to be sober. An ambulance wasn’t needed. 

A man with disheveled hair reportedly tried to open the doors on a Nelson Lane cabin.
