Law roundup: Scammers from New York threaten victims for money
A woman was getting repeated calls from a scammer who threatened to come to Montana all the way from New York “to get her.” She said she didn’t know how to block the phone number, had a virus on her phone and wanted help from the Kalispell Police Department. An officer told her to take the phone to her provider to be reset.
A woman whose identity was allegedly stolen called the police, very upset, saying someone had all her information and wanted her to mail them $4,000. She reportedly called the police again, still upset, wanting an officer to respond, saying she had been searching for phone numbers to call to find out if any of it was legitimate. The dispatcher told her to stop accepting or making calls until an officer arrived.
An aggressive stray dog allegedly parked itself in front of a house, where it barked at and charged one of the residents who dared go outside. The hound left once to chase a bicycle, but then returned, trapping the family inside.
An ex-employee allegedly posted “vague threats” online, telling the public to stay away from the business. Officers spoke to the former employee, letting him know he was not welcome at any of the business locations.
A man complained about vehicles parked in the bike lane and reportedly agreed with an officer that a sign may be a better option at the location rather than talking to all the vehicle owners.
Someone complained about a beat-up motor home with wood on the door parked at a location between Two Mile Drive and Husky Street.
