WHITEFISH
. Denied a master plan amendment requested by Benny Bee Sr. so he can build a subdivision at the corner of Voerman and Monegan roads.
Bee hoped to build 62 homes and 56 mini-storage units on about 18 acres that are designated as important farmlands in the master plan. Bee wanted to reclassify it as urban residential. He also requested a zone change and a planned unit development. The council denied them, too.
Several neighbors of the planned project said they opposed the amendment because they fear it will degrade the neighborhood's existing character as farmland. Other people said the area has problems with standing water that makes building homes there unwise. A few people spoke in favor of the project, saying the area is the logical place for growth in Whitefish. Other citizens applauded Bee's plans to sell six townhome units to the local affordable housing authority.
. Adopted a resolution of intent to create a special improvement district in the JP Road Area.
. Approved an amendment to the city's open container ordinance that would make outdoor dining areas and alcoves subject to open container restrictions.
. Adopted an amendment to the weed ordinance that scales down the amount of weed growth property owners can have and increases the fees the city can levy on owners when the city handles weeds on private properties.
. Granted a planned unit development for the Edgewater subdivision located south of Greenwood Drive.
. Granted requests for final plat approvals of the Lakes Cottages, Baker Avenue Subdivision and Garden Townhouses projects.
