Snow sculpture contest awaits 2006

| December 13, 2004 1:00 AM

Northwest Snow Sculpture Contest organizers have postponed the annual competition from 2005 to 2006.

John Rawlings, a sculptor and instructor at Flathead Valley Community College, said the move was prompted by the loss of some key sponsors.

According to Rawlings, the Whitefish Winter Carnival in 2005 will still include carvings by five teams from local high schools.

But the sanctioned competition won't happen until 2006.

Between now and then, the organization hopes to find a stable source of support for the competition which sends the winning team to the U.S. Snow Sculpting Competition in Lake Geneva, Wis.
