A Whitefish woman died Sunday from injuries suffered in a Saturday night highway crash.

Theresa Williams, 45, died from head injuries from the two-vehicle crash, according to Sheriff/Coroner Jim Dupont. Three other people were injured.

Witnesses told investigators that Williams swerved to avoid hitting a black dog on U.S. 93 near Hagerman Lane.

According to Montana Highway Patrol trooper Dustin LeRette, Williams was driving a 2000 Toyota Sienna van south on U.S. 93 and crossed over into the northbound lane.

Her vehicle collided with a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Daniel Donnelly, 34, of Kalispell.

All those involved, including passengers in both vehicles, were wearing seat belts, LeRette said. Williams' daughter was not critically injured. Donnelly suffered a chest injury and his wife has a possibly broken collarbone and ribs.

West Valley and Kalispell fire departments responded, with three ambulances from Kalispell and another from Whitefish. All four patients went to Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

LeRette said the road was dry at the time of the crash.

"Some details [on the cause] are still under investigation," he said Monday.
