Robert A. "Bob" Bartel, 73

Robert A. "Bob" Bartel, 73, passed away on Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at

Heritage Place in Kalispell.

Bob was born on Dec. 8, 1931, in Kalispell, to Anton and Grace Bartel.

He was raised in the lower valley area of Flathead County. He attended

Hodgson School and Echo Lake School.

Bob served in the U.S. Army as a cook and was stationed both overseas,

and at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. After the military, Bob went to work

for the Forest Service in Troy as a thinner, had worked cutting cedar posts,

and had worked in the saw mills, both in Troy and Libby.

He enjoyed reading, fishing, camping and playing cards at the Home Bar

in Troy. He enjoyed visiting with people at the Trojan Bowling alley. He

will be remembered for his kindness towards people and the love he had for

children. He loved playing games and telling stories.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, and two

brothers.

He is survived by three daughters; three sisters, Roberta Shelley of

Bigfork, Rodessa Norton of Kalispell, and Ramona Norton of Whitefish; one

brother, David Bartel of Coos Bay, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 to 2 p.m.,

Saturday, Dec. 18, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow at

Glacier Memorial Gardens with the United Veterans of the Flathead doing the

military honors.
