Quist, Gladstone brings West to life

| December 17, 2004 1:00 AM

Rob Quist and Jack Gladstone team up to bring their unforgettable "Odyssey West" to the O'Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish at 8 p.m. on Dec. 28.

In "Odyssey West," Quist and Gladstone tell the story of the U.S. westward expansion with keen insight and sensitivity. They bring the West to life with their original songs and narratives, presented with haunting photographic and artistic images of the Old and New West.

Gladstone, a descendent of legendary Blood Indian chief Red Crow. Gladstone learned the mythology and history of the Blackfeet people from a unique perspective. Gladstone's other great-great grandfather was a skilled carpenter who helped build Fort Benton and Fort Whoop Up. In understanding the stories of his ancestors, Gladstone has discovered the adventure and harmony inherent in Indian and white cultures.

Gladstone has released eight solo albums.

Quist, a third generation Montanan, grew up on a ranch on the eastern front of the Rocky Mountains where the endless plains meet the grandeur of Glacier National Park.

He writes with the passion, the boldness and the stark originality of the land he draws his strength from. His creativity ranges from full symphony arrangements of his original music to mainstream country.

Celebrating the power and legend of Lewis and Clark's first journey west, "Odyssey West" includes the song "Pass It On," which was commissioned by the Trail Heritage Foundation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to be used as a tool to promote the preservation of habitat and historical sites throughout the West.

This Whitefish Theatre Company sponsored performance is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for students. Box office hours are 10 a.m. a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and two hours before a performance.
