Watkins leads FHS with 16 points

HELENA - Helena Capital improved to 2-0 in Western Division basketball play Thursday night with a 55-47 overtime victory over Flathead.

The Bruins, 4-1 overall, outscored Flathead 10-4 in extended play to pull it out.

John Farrier sank two free throws with time running down to tie the contest at 47-all and send it to overtime.

"We had to foul them late and they hit some free throws down the stretch to beat us," said Flathead coach Fred Febach of the OT period

"It's tough to win on the road."

The Braves led 25-22 at the half.

It marked the fourth time this season a Flathead contest has been decided by six points or less.

Beau Watkins paced Flathead offensively with 16 points. Jeremy DeHerrera added 10.

"We got an exceptional game from Beau Watkins," said Febach. "He played very well."

Drew Miller of Capital led all scorers with 21 points.

It was the second straight overtime contest for Flathead. On Tuesday, the Braves defeated Helena High 71-67 in OT.

Flathead, 1-2 in league play and 2-4 overall, is off until a Jan 7 nonconference outing at C.M. Russell.
