Brendan House spreads 'random acts of Christmas'

| December 25, 2004 1:00 AM

Activities director Cheryl Lowe came up with an idea that spread cheer throughout Brendan House and beyond.

It was a way to thank people at the home and in the community. Lowe had little slips of paper printed that said "Random Acts of Christmas - Seasons Greetings! Thank you for all you do for Brendan House."

She stapled a wrapped piece of chocolate to each one and distributed them to people she wanted to thank. Lowe made piles of the slips available to other people at Brendan House who wanted to spread cheer.

Residents at the home participated in field trips devoted to random acts of Christmas.

"We went out and delivered hot chocolate to the bell ringers," Lowe said.

She couldn't keep up with the demand for the little slips of paper.

"I kept filling them up and they kept disappearing," Lowe said.

The random acts of Christmas emanating from Brendan House found their way back to the residents in an outpouring of gifts from the community.

On Christmas Eve, Lowe found herself wrapping a mountain of presents for the people who call Brendan House home.

Lowe's inspiration turned out better than expected.

"I think we're going to do this again next year," she said.
