Sigmund Helvik, 73

Sigmund Helvik, 73, of Libby, passed away Oct. 27, 2004. Sigmund was born Nov. 13, 1930, on a ranch east of Big Timber, to Julian and Ingeborg (Sofie) Helvik, the third of six boys. He grew up on the family ranch in Big Timber and attended Dry Creek School and Howe School.

Sigmund married Patricia Fay on March 12, 1955. They had three children.

Sigmund worked on the family ranch and Bieber Feed and Grain in Big Timber before working for a time at the smelter in Anaconda and finally settling in Libby in 1965. He worked for St. Regis Paper Company and Champion International in Libby for 27 years, retiring in 1991.

Sigmund enjoyed working in his garage fixing things. He had infinite patience for details and liked to create sculptures out of Popsicle sticks and paper clips. Sigmund also loved to tell stories. He was an honest, loving, kind and most generous man that always had time to help others.

Sigmund was preceded in death by both of his parents, and his brother, Jacob Helvik.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, Sandra Simonich of Helena, Johnny Helvik of Livingston, and Bryan Helvik of Carson City, Nev.; his brothers, Hans Helvik of Libby, Carl Helvik of Helena, Julian Helvik and Sidney Helvik of Big Timber; and eight grandchildren.

Sigmund was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather that will be greatly missed.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
