Paul Samuel Baker, 34, "went to be with the Lord" on Oct. 16, 2004.

Paul was born in Spokane, on Dec. 5, 1969, and graduated from Cheney High School in Cheney, Wash., in 1988.

He is survived by two sons, Cade, age 3, and Luke, age 2, who both live in Everett, Wash.; his mother, Sondra Hatton, of Kalispell; sisters, Sheri Litchfield of Kalispell, Vickie Hensley of Columbia Falls, and Lisa Ellman of Spokane; and a brother, Jerry Moreland of Kalispell. Stepbrothers and sisters include Richard, Tim, Tom, Harry and Jane; also numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Paul's life will be held at 3 p.m., Nov. 13, at the Crossroads Church, 5091 U.S. 2 West.

Cynthia Goldthwait, 80

Cynthia Goldthwait, 80, died peacefully at home Oct. 23, 2004.

Cynthia was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Syracuse N.Y. She was the daughter of Claude and Ethel McNett.

She worked in her parent's bakery and candy shop, also as a crossing guard for the Syracuse Police Department.

Cynthia married Woodrow Goldthwait after his return from fighting in the Pacific in World War II. They had one son, Glenn, in 1949. After Glenn moved to Montana in 1977, they soon followed.

Cynthia always dreamed of a log cabin in the woods. That dream was realized when Glenn built their cabin, just off Farm to Market Road. She was always proud of the fact that she helped peel the logs.

Cynthia will always be remembered for her tenacity, her fiery spirit, keen wit and sense of humor. Her positive attitude and incredible strength helped her to live her life to the fullest.

She is survived by her son, Glenn, his wife Ann, his daughter Rose and stepdaughter Kelly; also by her siblings, Sylvia, Victor, Guayne and Phyliss.

There will be an open house honoring Cynthia's life from 5 to 8 pm. on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the home of Glenn and Ann Goldthwait, 339 Dakota Ave.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice in Cynthia's name may be made.

Hazel Rose Laughlin, 92, passed away peacefully at Sunset Point in Chelan, Wash., on Nov. 2, 2004.

Hazel was born in Plains, Nov. 30, 1911, the daughter of Nicholas Aemisegger and Rosa Scheupbach. She was orphaned at the age of 4, and moved to Kalispell where she was adopted by Ed and Bertha Rose.

Following graduation from high school in 1929, she worked as a clerk/stenographer for the U.S. Forest Service until 1945, when she resigned to have her only child, John. From 1953 to 1965, she was employed as secretary to the superintendent of schools in Columbia Falls.

On Oct. 3, 1936, Hazel married Conrad H. Laughlin. In 1968, Hazel and "Connie" moved from Columbia Falls to Walla Walla, Wash., where she was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation and the Forest Service. Following Connie's death in 1987, she continued to reside in Walla Walla, until 1998, when she moved to Chelan, Wash., to be closer to her son, John, daughter-in-law, Lori, and her grandchildren.

Hazel enjoyed writing. She completed three children's books and had published several short stories and devotionals. She enjoyed reading, gardening, intellectual discussions, and playing cards. She always had good friends and looked for the best in others. She believed continual learning and growth were important.

She was a devoted Christian, and a member of the Methodist church.

She is survived by a sister, Martha, of Plains; and a sister, Audrey, of Concord, Calif.; son, John, and grandchildren, Emily and Luke of Chelan; grandson, Brad of Walla Walla, grandson, Jim of Olympia; and many highly regarded nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad, and seven brothers and sisters.

Services of commemoration will be at 11 am. Monday, Nov. 8, at Johnson Funeral Home in Kalispell. Committal service and interment will follow at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Chelan United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1236, Chelan, WA 98816, or a charity of choice.
