Five FHS athletes named all-state

Flathead High School was well represented in balloting by league coaches with five athletes earning all-state recognition for Class AA soccer.
The Flathead boys had four selections in seniors Jordan Lister and Brock Jahner and juniors Zach Brenneman and Sean Riley.
Lister and Riley were singled out for a second straight year.
"All four of those guys were key players," said FHS coach Tom McFarlane.
"Individuals who made differences in games. Those four were pretty much indispensible."
Jelisa Guy, a junior, was the lone Flathead girl named all-state.
It marked the second time the Flathead boys have had four all-state selections in one year. The first was 1998 when the Braves captured the state title.
FHS finished third at state this fall.
"This year I was a bit surprised," said McFarlane of having four picked.
Butte and Helena Capital both had two selections while Missoula Big Sky, Hellgate and Sentinel each had one.
Left out of the voting was Helena High.
Riley, a forward, led FHS in scoring with 17 goals. Lister, midfield, had six goals, but led the team in assists with nine.
Jahner, keeper, registered four shutouts.
Brenneman was Flathead's sweeper.
The Braves allowed just one goal per game while scoring just over three.
Guy, a forward, led the FHS girls in scoring with 15 goals.
The Helena High girls, however, led the way with three all-state selections.
Helena Capital, Missoula Sentinel and Hellgate all had two apiece.
Missoula Big Sky had no all-state selections.
Players named all-state also garnered all-conference honors.
