Auditions set for drama and musical

Flathead Valley Community Theatre will hold auditions for its next two productions, an adaptation of Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull" and the off-Broadway hit "Bat Boy: The Musical" on Monday and Tuesday.

Open to the public, auditions for "The Seagull" will begin at 6 p.m., and auditions for "Bat Boy: The Musical" will begin at 7 p.m. in Flathead Valley Community College's Learning Resource Center, room 123A.

"The Seagull" has been adapted from the original by director David Ackroyd and is set in 1910 Montana. Parts are available for women in their early 20s to late 40s and men from early 20s to over 60. "The Seagull" will begin rehearsals Dec. 1 and will continue through December 22. Following the holiday break, rehearsals will resume January 12, 2005 and continue until the opening of the production.

Performance dates will be February 18-19 and 25-26 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 20 at 2 p.m.

Rehearsals for "Bat Boy: The Musical" will begin in mid-February, but cast members also will have the opportunity to obtain additional training by enrolling in theater courses instructed by directors Betsi Morrison and Luke Walrath, offered during the spring semester. Individuals trying out are encouraged, to prepare a song, preferably from "Bat Boy." A piano accompanist will be present at the auditions.

Performance dates for "Bat Boy" will be April 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30 at 8 p.m. and April 17 and 24 at 2 p.m.
