Memberships to Whitefish's new fitness and aquatic center are up for sale, and they're going fast.

The facility won't open until January or February, but about 400 people have signed up since last week.

"It's going really well," center director Art Krueger said. "We've gotten a lot of response and it's been very positive."

The Wave is a nonprofit community center that will include pools, fitness equipment and services. Community members raised money for the center through donations and some city government support.

Enrollment fees for members will be 75 percent off until Dec. 10. After that, sign-up fees are $225 for individuals, $75 for the second family member and $50 for each additional family member.

Seniors will pay $75 and the second senior costs $20. Seniors include anyone 65 or older. Senior couples must have one member who is 65 and a combined age of 120.

The monthly fees vary by payment option. Paying by electronic fund transfer saves members a few dollars per month. Individuals pay $49 a month by such a transfer or $55 in cash or credit. A couple's membership is $74 or $84 a month. Children 12-20 are $19 each or $22 each. Children 5-11 are $4 each or $6 each. Seniors pay $41 a month or $46. Senior couples are $67 or $77.

Scholarships are available for those who cannot afford the memberships. For information on guidelines and scholarship applications, contact Krueger.

To purchase memberships, visit the trailer at the Wave site at 1250 BAker Ave. from 12-6 p.m. Monday-Friday or Saturdays from 3-5 p.m. Or call 862-2444.
