Columbia Falls police are holding a 45-year-old man charged with partner assault. Police said the man beat up his girlfriend Sunday night, but the woman did not seek help until her sister came to the house Monday and called police. The victim was treated at North Valley Hospital for her extensive wounds.

Letters in the mail are not allowed under a temporary restraining order - that's what someone will find out when police serve a warrant for violating that protective order.

A freshly smashed snowball and a jacket in the ditch were all the evidence left behind by someone hurling a snowball at a car from the tall grass along Veterans Drive Monday night.
