Pray for snow party at Big Mountain

It's time for skiers to rally around the bonfire to pray for snow at Big Mountain's annual party Saturday.

The Pray for Snow party begins at 7 p.m. Starting at 8 p.m., Electric Mud will offer blues-based funk, rock and roll originals and covers. Around 10 p.m., a bonfire will be lit in the Cedar lot. There is no cover charge for the festivities.

The Bierstube's regular menu of pub-style food, burgers and homemade soups and chili will be available.

Word has it that the party began as a joke 33 years ago, when Bierstube patrons who were frustrated with a dry winter sacrificed ski gear in a bonfire for the snow god, Ullr.

It is now against the law to burn skis, plastic, metal or construction waste, so this year the resort will use logging slash.

For more information on the Pray for Snow party, call the Bierstube at 862-3028.
