Wilber R. Voorhies, 90

Wilber R. Voorhies, 90, passed away of natural causes on Nov. 19, 2004, at Heritage Place in Kalispell with his three sisters at his bedside.

Wilber was born March 22, 1914, to Wilber Sr., and Ruby (Rundell) Voorhies on the family homestead near Rocky Point, Wyo. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. Wilber worked as a carpenter all of his life and enjoyed dreaming and inventing.

Wilber is survived by his children, Steven and Linda Kay, from his marriage to Tootie; and his stepchildren, Darlene and Randy, from his marriage to Jackie. He is also survived by his brother, Alvin Voorhies, of Cherokee Village, Ark.; and his sisters, Evelyn Longpre and husband Joe, Jennie Rauthe and Nelda Ann Morgan, all of Kalispell. In addition, he is survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Wilber was preceded in death by his parents; the mothers of his children and stepchildren; an infant sister, Jessie; and two brothers, Everett and Barney Voorhies.

During his lifetime, Wilber had also lived in Orchard, Neb., Olympia and Chewelah, Wash., and Kalispell.

Cremation has taken place and, at Wilber's request, no memorial services are planned at this time.
