FHS girls, boys both fall to Helena High, 3-2

Kendra Kamerzel scored two first-half goals in leading Helena High to a 3-2 win over Flathead on Saturday in Class AA girls soccer.

The Bravettes, 5-2-1 overall, 3-2-1 league, took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on Jelisa Guy's goal off a free kick.

Helena responded with three straight before Megan Rice scored at 88 minutes to get Flathead within one on an assist from Guy.

"I thought we played very well," Flathead coach Scott Warnell said. "I thought we pretty much dominated the game but didn't get the goals to go in.

"We had two shots off the post in the first two minutes of the game and that kind of set the tone for the rest of the game.

"Jelisa Guy had an outstanding game up front for us and Jessica Corpron played very strong defensively for us."

The Bravettes next travel to Butte on Thursday.

Rinard finished the day with two goals. It was the second time this season the Bengals edged Flathead by one goal.

"We came out really tough in the second half," said FHS assistant coach Buck Measure. "Passing very well. We got outhustled in the first half and had a tough time making up the difference."

Sean Riley scored back-to-back goals for Flathead at 50 and 52 minutes.

Flathead dominated the stats. The Braves had 21 shots on goal to seven for the Bengals.

"We were all over the place," said Measure of the shots. "We had two crosses roll right across the face of the goal and nobody put a foot on them. Unable to finish."
