The speed limits on Whitefish Stage Road and Three Mile Drive will be adjusted to make sure they're in line with county ordinances and safety considerations.

Flathead County commissioners accepted recommendations from the Montana Department of Transportation on Monday to clear up confusion on Whitefish Stage and ensure Three Mile Drive's limits are properly posted.

A study of Whitefish Stage traffic found that the existing 45 mph speed limit should stay in place.

Commissioners also approved a 35 mph limit around Edgerton School during school hours.

The road is a state secondary highway, which means the county establishes speed limits on it.

However, confusion erupted earlier this year when the city of Kalispell posted a 25 mph school zone and issued conflicting regulations about when it was in effect.

Plans now call for new electronic signs on Whitefish Stage that will display the appropriate speed limit at different times of day.

The changes on Three Mile Drive were prompted by a driver who successfully challenged a speeding ticket.

The ticket was thrown out because current signs extend the 30 mph speed limit near the Meridian intersection too far west - the limit officially increases to 40 mph at Hawthorne Avenue.

The recommendation accepted Monday calls for a 35 mph limit from Meridian to Garland Drive and 45 mph beyond that.

A 25 mph speed limit also will be in effect during school hours near Kalispell Junior High School. 442A.uiuoeS.aeAphie-)()((TM)oe}g'oiPIaeeuoeOeAoCfqxxguEQpjfaeaaaaOeAmAeAUeooaaaqoqadaEorneUeccaWCjr~CstUk}xrAeiUeeweTJzhU_eCGQ`
