Linnell nabs 3 INTs in Eureka win

EUREKA - Isiah Linnell intercepted three Plains passes, returning one for a touchdown, as the Eureka Lions defeated the visiting Horsemen 14-0 in a District 8-B matchup.

It was the third straight shutout for the Eureka (3-0, 3-3) defense, which picked off five passes in all.

Zach Nieuwsma had the other two interceptions.

"Just a great, great game," Eureka coach Ed Newell said. "Our defense did a great job.

"(The Horsemen) are a big, physical team. They average 230 across the front line.

"I think our conditioning paid off," the coach said.

Linnell's second quarter interception was the only scoring until late in the game.

Eureka put together a 75-yard, time-consuming drive to eat up 4:20 of the fourth quarter.

"We just kind of picked them apart on the way down the field," the coach said.

"Our offensive line did a great job. (The Horsemen) didn't really hurt us with the blitz like they have other teams."

Lineman Thane Adams also received praise from the coach for his efforts, as did fullback/linebacker Michael Mee.

The Lions travel next weekend to St. Ignatius.
