Whitefish, Polson top state A golf play

SIDNEY - Whitefish and Polson took commanding first-day leads at the Class A state golf tournament Friday at the Sidney Country Club.
The Whitefish boys, undefeated on the season, fired a 304 total for a 27-shot advantage on second-place Bigfork, 331.
Polson's girls were also impressive, posting a team total of 368. Whitefish is holding down second place, 384, with Miles City third, 387.
The tournament winds up today.
Individually, Maresa Jenson of Whitefish and Chris Golden of Belgrade topped the leaderboard.
Jenson shot an 80, for a two-shot edge on Jen Orchard of Polson and Brittany Hedge of Miles City.
Golden fired a 73 to lead Spencer Hughes and Tyler Holtet, both of Whitefish, by a stroke.
The Whitefish boys had four players in the top 10. Derek Denning was fifth with a 76 and Matt Krause 10th with an 80.
Libby's Jim Mee fired a 77, good for sixth place, and Bigfork's Chris Richter was one place back with a 78.
For the girls, Kristina Samsel of Polson is tied for fourth with an 88 while Teri Rebo of Libby is tied for eighth with a 93.
