WHS boys win state golf
Polson girls finish 2nd, Whitefish girls 3rd
SIDNEY - The Whitefish boys golf team captured their first Class A state golf title since 2000 on Saturday with another impressive display.
With four players in the top 10, the Bulldogs finished with a team score of 621.
"Perfect season," said WHS coach Terry Nelson. "Nobody beat them. They played well all year long. They've worked hard."
Spencer Hughes, the lone senior on the team, led the Bulldogs with his fourth-place finish, 154. Derek Denning tied for fifth, 155, and Matt Krause and Tyler Holtet shared seventh, 156.
The Whitefish girls also picked up a team trophy by finishing third, 763. The Polson girls finished second, 754, to Miles City, 746.
The Pirates were led by medalist Jen Orchard, 164. She had back-to-back rounds of 82.
Teammate Kristine Samsel was eighth, 184.
Maresa Jenson was one of three Bulldogs in the top 10. She finished third, 172.
Chelsea Ray was ninth, 185, and Alex Micklewright 10th, 186.
Libby's Teri Rebo tied for fifth, 182.
Bigfork had a top 10 finisher as Chris Richter tied for fifth, 155. Libby's Jim Mee was ninth, 157.
Whitefish hosts the state tournament next fall.
