Christian authors hold book signing

| October 23, 2004 1:00 AM

Three Christian authors, including Kalispell writer Tricia Goyer, will be signing their new releases at Christian Book Supply in Kalispell on Oct. 30 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Goyer will be joined by Stevensville author Debbie DiGiovanni and Houston writer Janice Thompson.

Goyer's latest book is "Night Song: A Story of Sacrifice," from Moody Publishing, released in September.

In the book, Goyer tells the little-known but true story of the orchestra started by prisoners in Hitler's Mauthausen death camp.

This courageous orchestra played the American national anthem as Allied troops arrived to liberate the camps. Around the orchestra story, Tricia weaves the fictional stories of a beautiful member of the Austrian resistance, the American GI who loves her, and a young prisoner who fakes his way into the camp orchestra in a desperate attempt to stay alive.

Robin Jones Gunn, best-selling author of the "Glenbrooke" series and the "Sisterchicks" novels, said this about "Night Song:"

"Tricia Goyer takes time to craft her novels with all the right ingredients. Readers easily connect with her characters and find themselves thinking about them long after the final note has been sung. A powerful historical story of darkness overcome by love."

Goyer was named Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference "Writer of the Year" in 2003. She has written hundreds of articles, Bible-study notes, and both fiction and nonfiction books.

Goyer's first novel, "From Dust and Ashes" (Moody) was inspired by true stories from World War II veterans.

Out of her own experiences as a teenage mother, and her work with young moms, Goyer wrote "Life Interrupted: The Scoop on Being a Young Mom." (Zondervan) This book was released June 2004.

Her first children's book was also released this month. "Ten Minutes to Showtime" (Tommy Nelson), was inspired by the types of stories Goyer loved reading to her own kids.

DiGiovanni of Stevensville recently released the novel "Concessions" from RiverOak Publishers.

In the book, Karan LaRue's happy life is shattered when she moves with her husband, Jack, and her young daughters to California, leaving all she has ever loved back home in beautiful Alaska.

Their ordinary life becomes a California whirlwind of adventure and transformed lifestyle as Karan tries to cope with her husband's changing character. But although her faith in Jack is human and failing, her faith in God carries her through, and lessons of truth, love and laughter restore the family's relationship to a greater depth of joy than before.

Thompson will be signing her book, "Hurricane," a heart-stopping tale woven around the very real story of the Galveston hurricane of 1900.

It chronicles the journey of Brent Murphy, a disillusioned journalist who returned to his native Galveston Island after seeking his fortune in the world of yellow journalism.

The island is a rather uneventful place, but Brent recognizes the fact that something has drawn him back despite the fear of rejection by the father he left behind six years earlier.
